Every year as leaves turn from a rich green to a crisp red, fashion changes accordingly to represent new trends. From bright floral dresses to muted pantsuit sets, fashion in each decade can take sharp turns and surprise couture enthusiasts. Take a look at trends over the years through the timeline below.
1950s
During this time period, knee length pleated skirts and dull colored, full sleeve tops were must-haves. As it became colder, ladies often paired this combination up with dress like trench coats that went down to one’s ankles. Long satin gowns were another party favorite.

1960s
During the 60s, women looked for fashion inspiration from French fashion designers like Givenchy and Pierre Cardin. Couture fashion with black prints was the new trend. A common example was pantsuits with statement trims.

90s fashion is making a comeback and the 90s was home to what would be some of the biggest milestones in fashion history — similar to the beginning of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Pastel colors began to gain popularity and women often threw on a faux-fur coat to complement their look

The early 2000s saw a more muted color palette for fall fashion, in contrast to the bright colors of previous eras. It was common to see business-casual trends of pantsuit sets and pencil skirts.

The hints of fur that accompanied with the previous era’s fashion transitioned into bigger, bolder statement jackets. They were either paired as a jumpsuit set of fur from head to toe, or as the focus of the outfit. For the latter, simple cotton bodysuits and knee high boots completed the outfit.

Currently, fashion has given rise to monotone colors of fall, often those of autumn leaves like burgundy. Women compliment this style with similarly toned makeup. More common patterns include intricate floral embroidery and outfits made of velour. Statement jackets remained popular with unique, new styles.
